Target Group
Members of the public, commerce and industry who wish to learn how to perform basic life support and use an Automated External Defibrillator.
Pre-Course Requirements
Please ensure all delegates are free of any condition that will prohibit them from participating fully during the practical aspects of the course.
Assessment
Assessment against Administer First Aid Element 4:1 (Adult) and AED competencies.

- Resuscitation: Adults
- Choking
- Assessment of Basic Life Support Skills
- Basic information about the heart and how defibrillation works
- Chain of Survival
- Defibrillation (Recognition of Heart Rythms)
- Introduction to the machine including care and maintenance
- Practical use of machine and Application of pads
- Voice prompts and appropriate responses
- CPR and use of AED on casualty
- Recording of Information (Sample Report Form)
- General guidelines for using a defibrillator
- Protocols and Candidate practice
- Special circumstances
- Hand over to the emergency services
- Practical exercises
Course Duration

Certification
Delegates will issued with a Save a Life certificate valid for three years and an AED certificate valid for twelve months.
