The NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations offers those who wish to work within the construction and built environment sector a work-based qualification that provides proof of their competency and capability in the construction sector. Who is the NVQ Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations For?

If you are interested in starting a career in the construction industry or are already involved in the industry and wish to prove your competence, this NVQ course might be a great fit for you. The course is open to applicants aged 16 and over and there are no barriers to entry related to prior knowledge, qualifications or skills. The course will assess workplace competency in situations where learners are required to display a certain level of knowledge and skill in the construction sector.

Course Duration

Total qualification time for this course is 900 hours, 300 of which are guided learning hours that will take place under supervision. Upon completion, learners will be granted a pass or fail.

Assessment

You will gain your pass/fail grade based on the quality of your portfolio of evidence, which will include evidence gathered in the workplace, written work, oral questioning, observations, professional discussion and witness testimony. This portfolio will be externally verified and a pass will be achieved where learners have met or surpassed all specified outcomes in each unit.

Course Content

The course consists of seven distinct pathways, one of which (a minimum of 90 credits) must be completed the achieve the qualification. Each pathway contains a series of up to six mandatory and up to thirteen optional units.

All seven pathways include the following mandatory units:-

Operating health, safety and welfare systems; preparing programmes and schedules of work; operating project information systems; developing and maintaining working relationships and personal development.

The seven pathways learners can choose from are built around seven disciplines, which are as follows:-

General Estimating

Preparing estimates, bid and tenders; preparing and processing invitations to tender.

Buying

Monitoring, maintaining and improving supplies of materials; recommending and monitoring supplies of plant and equipment.

Planning

Preparing drawings and schedules; assessing, planning and monitoring project methods and progress.

Surveying

Preparing and monitoring costs and accounts.

Site Technical Support

Implementing contract work; Establishing and maintaining the dimensional control of construction works.

Design Coordinator

Integrating and controlling project design information.

Whichever pathway you choose, you’ll be required to complete a selection from the mandatory and optional units available. Note that some of these units provide skills common to all relevant positions.
