SPC Training for London Underground Worksites

Why take this course?

The Site Person in Charge (SPC) course qualifies individuals to manage worksites safely on London Underground infrastructure, ensuring compliance with current legislation and LU rules.

It equips participants with the knowledge and skills required to plan, document, and oversee safe working practices while coordinating with other staff and safety professionals.

On completion, delegates receive a track certificate with the SPC endorsement, valid for two years.

This course can also be taken as a refresher for existing professionals who already hold a valid SPC competency and need to renew their certification.

What does the training involve?

The course teaches you how to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the Site Person in Charge
  • Safely plan and manage worksites on LU infrastructure
  • Apply documentation requirements, including permits and licences
  • Coordinate with other safety staff and manage sign-in procedures
  • Deliver clear safety briefings to staff
  • Pass the written and practical assessments (theory only exam for the refresher course)

Requirements before attending:

  • A valid Sentinel card showing LU-WSSI induction
  • A valid LU medical assessment (BTA level or higher, valid for 5 years)
  • A valid track certification with in-date Basic Track Awareness (BTA)
  • In-date SPC certificate or expired within the last 14 days (for Refresher only)

Other details:

  • Duration: 2 days (1 day for the refresher course)
  • Delivery times: 09:00 (day course) or 19:00 (night course)
  • PPE: Not required (theory-based course)

  • Planning safe worksites on LU infrastructure
  • Required documentation: permits, licences, sign-in processes
  • Coordination with staff and safety professionals
  • Preparing and delivering effective safety briefings
  • Written theory assessment (80% pass mark)
  • Practical assessment: briefing delivery
  • SPC endorsement added to Sentinel track certificate (valid 2 years)
  • Signing in/out and site access procedures (Refresher)
  • Liaison with safety-critical roles (Refresher)
  • Emergency procedures and incident management (Refresher)

How is this delivered?

The SPC course is delivered over two days:

  • Day one (theory):
    • Role of the Site Person in Charge
    • Planning worksites and documentation requirements
    • Permits, licences, and sign-in processes
    • Liaising with responsible personnel
    • Preparing and structuring staff briefings
  • Day two (assessment):
    • Recap of theory from day one
    • Written test (80% pass mark)
    • Practical assessment: delivering a site briefing

The SPC Refresher is delivered as a 1-day theory course, available during the day or at night.
