What is the NVQ 2 Plastering Course?

This NVQ Level 2 Plastering (Construction) – Solid course is intended to support plasterers in the construction sector. It’ll assess their abilities, and demonstrate those abilities to others in the industry. The NVQ is a widely-respected qualification; everyone you come across in the construction industry will recognise.

In order to enrol on this NVQ Level 2 Plastering course, you’ll need to already be employed in the construction industry. This is because of the course’s practical nature – you’ll be assessed in a real working environment, and so you’ll need access to one. As such, you’ll need to be at least sixteen years old. The course provides a route toward a Blue CSCS card or a Skilled Worker Card.

NVQ 2 Plastering Course Content

NVQ courses in construction are structured in a specific way. At the centre there are mandatory modules which provide a broad base of skills required by many construction professions. On top of that, there are modules with a particular focus on plastering. In this case, the mandatory modules are:

  • Handling and moving resources in the workplace
  • Conforming to general safety in the workplace
  • Conforming to efficient working practices in the workplace

For learners following the basic solid plastering pathway, there’s also one more mandatory unit:

  • Applying finishing plaster to background surfaces in the workplace

Learners looking to gain gain maximum credit toward their qualification will also want to choose from the following optional units particular to the basic solid plastering pathway:

  • Installing mechanically fixed plasterboard in the workplace
  • Producing internal solid plastering finishes in the workplace
  • Producing external solid render finishes in the workplace
  • Applying projection plaster and maintaining equipment in the workplace
  • Installing direct bond dry linings in the workplace
  • Laying sand and cement screeds to levels and/or falls in the workplace

On top of this, additional modules will allow for progression into the Solid – Full pathway. Of these, there are two mandatory units:

  • Producing external solid render finishes in the workplace
  • Producing internal solid plastering finishes in the workplace

As well as five optional units which will contribute to the overall credit of the learner:

  • Installing direct bond dry linings in the workplace
  • Applying projection plaster and maintaining equipment in the workplace
  • Installing mechanically fixed plasterboard in the workplace
  • Applying finishing plaster to background surfaces in the workplace
  • Laying sand and cement screeds to levels and/or falls in the workplace
