Prerequisites for the SSSTS Course

To attend the SSSTS course, you must have:

A good understanding of written and spoken English (Note: Translators are not permitted)
Photographic ID, such as a passport or driving license
Written parental consent if you are under 18 years of age

Failure to provide these on the first day may result in your exclusion from the course.

Course Duration

The SSSTS course spans 2 days.

Assessment and Certification

The SSSTS course concludes with an exam, a case study task, and an evaluation of your participation in class activities. If you do not pass the SSSTS exam, you will need to re-sit it within 90 days, subject to an additional fee.

How do I pass the SSSTS course?

To pass the course successfully and receive a SSSTS certificate you will be required to answer all of the safety critical questions correctly.

Is there a test for SSSTS?

SSSTS assessment is continuous throughout the course via individual and group exercises. A SSSTS test at the end will prove the knowledge learned during the 2-days. The SSSTS test is in the form of a multiple choice CITB examination paper.

Do I need to revise for SSSTS?

No. the 2-day training will prepare you for the SSSTS test.

How many questions are on the SSSTS test?

The SSSTS test consists of 25 questions. Four of the questions will be safety critical and will require a short written answer. Safety critical questions are worth 1-3 points each and multiple choice questions are worth 1 point each.

What is the pass rate for SSSTS?

The SSSTS pass mark is a score of 80% (24 out of 30).

If I fail the CITB SSSTS course can I resit and what is the cost?

Most CITB SSSTS course providers offer chargeable resits, however there are a few that do not, in which case the full course will have to be retaken and charged in full. Please check at the time of booking.

How long is the SSSTS course valid?

The SSSTS course is valid for 5 years. To ensure you keep your qualification up to date, you must attend the one day SSSTS Refresher course before the expiry date of your SSSTS certificate (there is no grace period available).

Is a CITB grant / levy claimable?

Companies who are CITB registered can claim £70 grant for each delegate. To allow for the automated process of claiming back the training grant, please ensure that delegates attending the SSSTS course take the Levy Number and enter it on the relevant section of the paperwork. Retrospective claims may not be accepted.
