Who is this Course For?
SMSTS courses are designed for managers and others who are in a supervisory role. These courses are also suitable for anyone who is aiming for a promotion into a more supervisory role in the future. It would look great on a CV and would demonstrate a knowledge and commitment to safety in the workplace. The course is also recommended for proprietors of construction firms.
What Does the Course Cover?
The course is designed to provide managers and those in a position of authority with the skills and knowledge that they need to manage health & safety regulations effectively. The syllabus will cover a number of key elements which include how to conduct a risk assessment, setting up the site safely and method statements. The course will also include information about how to safely handle potentially dangerous working situations such as scaffolding, demolitions, excavations and working within confined spaces.
What is Required to Pass the Course?
To pass the course and receive the full qualification, all attendees must be present for all five days of the training. If one of the days is missed, the training has not been completed. Participants must also pass a final examination which takes place at the end of the five day course.
Upon completion of the course, successful participants will be given a CITB accredited certificate which will prove that they are qualified for the management of health and safety as required by law. In the future, the qualification can be refreshed by attending a two day SMSTS Refresher course.
Are there Any Entry Requirements?
There are no official formal entry requirements for the training. However, participants in the course are expected to have a good grasp of spoken and written English. Candidates should also be working in the role of a site manager or should be looking to progress toward this type of role in the future. You do not need to have completed the SSSTS course in order to take the site managers course.
How Longs is the Certificate Valid For?
When you complete the course you will receive a certificate which is valid for 5 years. Before the five year period expires you can renew your certificate with a two day refresher course and you will receive a new five year valid certificate. You will have six months from the date of expiry to successfully complete the 2 day refresher course.
